Family Support

Parent Empowerment and Support

The number one predictor of success…

Since we started tracking outcomes in 2013, 92% of Parents/Families who learn simple, yet empowering, communication with their young adult child end up with sustainable long-term successful outcomes.

Sadly, the success rate drops to 5% when parents cannot change their need to “helicopter,” be their child’s BFF or to control their young adult and/or life coaching staff from afar. It drops when parents enable and rescue their young adult by cutting the process short before students have shown they are ready through their actions. Much like learning to ride a bike, falling and getting a skinned knee is part of the process of normal life. If parents provide financial safety nets or focus on rescuing their adult child from life’s rites of passages, the chance of success is low.

Empowering Parents to Empower Their Adult Child

During these six pre-scheduled sessions, parents do the foundational work necessary to prepare to positively change their relationship with their adult child forever.

Parent Empowerment Course #2
The Tatori Method

During these two to four scheduled sessions, parents and family members go through a simplified version of the Tatori Method for themselves and how it applies to their relationship with their adult child.

Parent Empowerment Course #3
The Investor Relationship

During these three to six sessions, a Life Coach will guide each adult through a new way of communication. This includes reporting personal progress to one another, with the intention of the coach being able to back out of these conversations in the future. Parents and their adult children will learn “essentialism” and focus of what to discuss, what to invest in, when to help, and when to stay out of the way.

Success Tip #1

As a young adult life coaching experience, we work with our students much like an employer or a college campus would with their adults. Even if a parent is paying for the tuition for college, the ‘updates’ on how the student is doing on homework, attendance, grades, etc. primarily comes from the college student themselves and not from the professors.

Success Tip #2

As a young adult life coaching experiences, we treat our students much like an employer or a college campus would work with their adults. Even if a parent is paying for the tuition for college, the ‘updates’ on how the student is doing on homework, attendance, grades, etc. primarily comes from the college student themselves and not from the professors.

Success Tip #3

Pacia Life is a “Life Coaching” experience designed to help young adults find their independence in one or more of our five different tracks. Sometimes, parents who have had children in treatment centers, mistakenly try to treat Pacia Life as a treatment center.

Students are allowed to have full communication with parents, family, friends, etc. unless there is a specific safety related concern where communication needs to be temporally suspended.

Success Tip #4

Parents are welcome to communicate directly with their young adult child anytime, ask questions, etc. However, we ask that parents refrain from hearing a concern from their child and then calling Pacia to fix the problem for their child. (It is O.K. for a parent to pass on information to Pacia Life Coaches so they can be aware and follow up as needed.) It is not O.K. to call and expect Pacia Life staff to drop what they are doing to solve a perceived problem for your young adult child. This is a sure sign of harming the grit and resiliency of young adults trying to achieve sustainable self-reliance. In fact, parents who do this are sending a strong message that they don’t believe in their own child’s ability to be solution focused and to troubleshoot conflict.

Success Tip #5

‘Helicopter Parenting’ has proved to set students up for regression, more than any other type of parenting. Parents often think they are helping. When in reality, they are innocently causing harm.
Imagine if your adult child is struggling at work and he/she calls you to call her boss for her to resolve the issue. As an adult, this is something that they must solve on his/her own. To reach the goal of Sustainable Self-Reliance in all areas of life, they must learn to: resolve conflicts, stay solution focused, and learn to overcome setbacks without a parent rescuing them. The struggles our young adults go through are what create the in the moment, real life teaching opportunities for our staff to coach from.
